The BIG Knit Update: Christmas Pudding Or Snowman?

Innocent Big Knit 2013 is back with a bang! One million little woolly hats have been knitted and are now adorning Innocent Smoothie bottles, ready for purchase all over the land (UK). In my previous Big Knit post here, I shared my enthusiasm for this campaign and expressed my excitement at seeing what creations people would come up with for 2013. I have not been disappointed – this year the nation have really outdone themselves on the quality and imaginative designs of their little knits! 

There were around forty behatted bottles available for purchase at my local store. I had to rummage about in the chiller aisle deciding on which hats to choose as my favourites. I settled upon going with a wintry, Christmassy theme and picked these two: A snowman and a Christmas pudding! Each year, I root around looking for the slightly quirkier hats so I was really impressed when I stumbled across these two! There are both beautifully made and looked super cute atop the smoothie bottles.

I am naturally a very indecisive bunny and could not pick a favourite between the two so thought I would try them both on to get a better idea of how each would look on me.

Movember: Grow Your Mo Like A Bunny!

Bunny in a moustache? It’s that time again people… Movember time! For one month only, men worldwide participate in the ritual of growin’ a Mo in support of raising awareness and funds for men’s health issues such as testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health. The ‘Movember Movement’ originated in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 and now ten years later, there are official Movember campaigns in 21 countries! What started as thirty Mo sporting men in 2003 grew to 1.1 million Mo’s across the world in 2012. Hopefully this tenth anniversary year will be the biggest yet! 

Movember is not just for men! Women can get involved too by becoming Mo Sistas. These are women who help to support and encourage the men in their life to join in on the ‘tache growing month. Find out more here.

Official Movember Rules As Set Out By Movember.com:

1. Each Mo Bro must begin the 1st of November with a clean shaven face.
2. For the entire month of November each Mo Bro must grow and groom his moustache.
3. There is to be no joining of the Mo to your sideburns – that’s considered a beard.
4. There is to be no joining of your handlebars to your chin – that’s considered a goatee.
5. Each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman!

So those are the fundamentals of Movember, now go out and support the Mo!

Halloween: Bunny Style

2. Treats (Or tricks if that’s your bag) for the Trick-or-Treaters – check

Yes, it wouldn’t be Halloween without a pet in a costume or two. Now, we’ve all seen the dogs and the cats…standard procedure. I’m reaching out to big up the love for us smaller critters, who can sometimes be neglected and left out of this annual tradition. Personally, I’ve been having difficulties locating off-the-peg gear to fit my mini-lop frame. I weighed up my options and decided I’d have to do a Blue Peter job on this (above photo). I’m by no means a D-I-Y Master, so settled upon the relatively easy to recreate, ubiquitous symbol of Halloween – ‘The Witch’s Hat’.

In the interests of gender equality and because every good party announces a King and Queen/Mr and Mrs award – here’s my housemate Bailey Bunny representing for the guys:

The BIG Knit

Big Knit Hat

The Innocent Big Knit is back for this November here in the UK. I had a rummage around my dressing up box and managed to dig out this little number from last year’s campaign. For those of you unacquainted with the Innocent Big Knit, it goes something like this:

• General public knit little hats and submit them to Innocent.
• Hats adorn Innocent smoothie bottles  (yes you read that right, the drinks wear the hats).
• Smoothies available to purchase from local shops supporting the campaign and 25p from the sale of each bottle goes to Age UK.
• Funds raised from smoothie sales go to Age UK’s ‘Spread the Warmth’ campaign to make winter warmer for vulnerable old people. Such funds are spent on things like hot water bottles, blankets, hot meals and social gatherings.

It’s really as simple as that to get involved. This year the Big Knit is celebrating it’s 10th birthday and they’ve introduced an extra way to join in. The Big Knitter is an online virtual hat maker. Basically you design a hat, share it on Facebook or Twitter and for every share Innocent will donate an extra 10p towards Age UK’s ‘Spread the Warmth campaign’.

Time for The Hat!

Time for The Hat!

The weather here in London has taken a decidedly chillier turn. It was obvious that I was going to need to take action to prevent my bunny ears from getting too cold. I was given no choice but to accept that I, Bluebell Bunny, was about to become a hat wearer! Now not everyone is a fan of the humble head warmer. Some may find them uncomfortable to sport, others simply feel they look unflattering on them but I am an avid supporter of the hat. Do not scoff or mock, worn the right way, a hat can be a great accessory to a fall/autumn/winter look.

How to wear a hat correctly:

• Get a hat that fits your head – it shouldn’t be precariously propped on top of your head likely to slip off with any sort of head movement (retro Olly Murs-esque look) or uncomfortably tight causing the wearer a headache.
• Co-ordinate hat with outfit – should be an obvious one. In winter you’re probably looking at matching it to your coat.
• Season/Occasion appropriate – be sensible here. Summer hat with winter office wear… just plain wrong on all levels.
• Hair under the hat – At some point you’ll need to take that hat off your head and you don’t want to be greeted with a frizzy nightmare lurking underneath. Style your hair simply under that hat (think ponytail etc) and you should be fine.

Now as a bunny, some of these points will be irrelevant to me but hopefully useful to human folk. This is by no means a comprehensive list of the Do’s and Don’ts of hat wearing but it should help you avoid any unnecessary faux pas.

Most of all remember not to hate on the hat!
